SUCCESS IN NATIONAL FINALS FOR BIATHLON SUPERSTAR
After qualifying in first place at the South East Regional in Medway last November, Oliver Rosson-Jones from St.Andrew's School, Meads, was one of fifty Year 6 boys selected from around the UK to swim and run in the final of The British Schools Modern Biathlon at Crystal Palace on Sunday 21st March. There was stiff competition on the day with children from all over the British Isles determined to go home with a trophy or medal for their schools.
The day started well with Oliver being awarded joint first place and a
credible 1300 points in the swim. He swam in an impressive 50m Olympic
pool and completed his race in 31.77 seconds. There was time for re-fuelling
and then out to the equally impressive Crystal Palace running track. Unlike
the regional events, these races were organised according to qualifying
times and Oliver was set to run in the fastest heat. His 500m run was
therefore incredibly tough and very fast indeed. He completed the race
in 1min29secs and was awarded 1732 points.
Beaten only by one young man from Leeds, Oliver finished the competition
in a fantastic second place. He returned home very tired, but absolutely
satisfied!
