French is taught from the age of 5, with emphasis given to the speaking of the language in the early stages. Games, songs and rhymes help to make the study of a foreign language fun, but all children will need to tackle the rigours of grammar and vocabulary learning before they sit the Common Entrance or scholarship exam.
